PLANTING TREES

At BDA, we scientifically select native indigenous trees to be planted, to help regenerate the forest in its original form, contribute to the protection of the environment and enhance its unique local biodiversity

GROWING FAMILIES

At BDA, trees are planted by local population. We select, train, hire and pay thousand and thousand of families, living into the Reserve and in the surrounding village for them to plant the trees, monitor its growth over the year and embracing their role for the protection of the Reserve.

STRENGTHENING COMMUNITIES

The BDA Enhancing Community and Reforestation Program includes the setting up of a startup fund to finance local commercial projects, compatible with the conservation of the forest, to leverage sustainable economic development and alleviate poverty.

BDA is planning to implement the BDA Enhancing Community and Reforestation Program across the African continent, beginning with Luki Biosphere Reserve in the Democratic Republic of Congo

Designated as Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1976, Luki faces a serious problem of deforestation, loss of biodiversity, and human poverty.

We are on a mission to save the Luki Biosphere Reserve!

The Biosphere Reserve of Luki

Luki Biosphere Reserve has recorded more than 30% loss of forest cover over the past 10 years despite its status of Biosphere Reserve. If nothing is done in the coming years, this reserve will disappear as well at its unique biodiversity.

BDA Enhancing Community and Reforestation Program

A unique program focused on more than just planting trees but also addressing core issues in order to provide sustainable biodiversity protection and impact on both the community and the environment.

URGENT ACTION NEEDED!

Biodiversity is deteriorating worldwide. This decline is projected to worsen and can affect nearly every aspect of human life for generation to come.

We are facing serious consequences from the loss of biodiversity

  • Reduced food security: Fewer crops and livestock breeds become available

  • Economic impacts: Significant economic impacts, including the loss of income and livelihoods for communities that depend on natural resources, and the costs of environmental damage and restoration.

  • Reduced medicine resources: Many medicines and health products are derived from natural compounds found in plants and other organisms. The loss of biodiversity can lead to a reduction in the availability of resources, limiting our ability to develop new treatments.

  • Increased disease risk: Increase the risk of zoonotic diseases, as ecosystems become disrupted and species are forced into closer contact with humans.

  • Cultural and spiritual loss: Loss of cultural and spiritual values, as traditional knowledge, practices, and beliefs are lost along with the species and ecosystems they are linked to.

  • Ecosystem disruption: Decline in ecosystem services such as pollination, water purification, and climate regulation.

The loss of biodiversity has far-reaching consequences for both the natural world and human society, and it is important that we take action to protect and conserve biodiversity for future generations.
